Manage your collection

Read your live portfolio value and P&L, track each bottle's lifecycle from sealed to opened to sold, and edit or remove bottles — everything you do after your collection is in wsky1.

Once your bottles are in, your portfolio is home base: a live valuation of everything you own, plus per-bottle tools to edit details, mark a bottle opened or sold, and record what you actually got for it. This page covers everything after the first add.

Prerequisites

Your portfolio at a glance

Open My cellar (/app/portfolio) — the default screen after you sign in. It leads with:

  • Estimated portfolio value — the sum of every bottle you still own (sealed and opened), valued against live auction data. See Valuation & confidence bands for how each bottle's number is built.
  • Change vs. cost basis — when you've recorded purchase prices, the headline shows your gain or loss, e.g. ▲ £420 (+12.3%) vs £3,400 paid. No purchase prices yet? You'll see a prompt to add them.
  • Realized P&L — once you've sold bottles, a line summarises your realized proceeds minus cost across everything sold, e.g. +£1,240 on 5 sold.
  • Portfolio value chart — the Portfolio value panel, a 12-month line of what your owned bottles are worth. Once you've held bottles for a full year it's headed Last 12 months and shows a Value change · 12 mo figure (latest snapshot vs. the one ~12 months ago). That YoY move is deliberately labelled separately from the cost-basis P&L in the header — they measure different things, so the screen never reads two loss numbers as one.
  • New or young portfolio? The series backfills each bottle's market price history from before you added it, so on an account younger than a year the chart is headed Market history · these bottles instead, the value-change figure is hidden, and a caption spells out that this is the bottles' own auction movement — not your holding performance. Your personal 12-month return appears once you've actually held the bottles that long.

Owned bottles are listed first; Sold bottles sit in their own section below.

Top-right you have three actions: the share toggle (mint an anonymised read-only link — see Share your portfolio), Import (see Import your collection), and + Add bottle. On the Free plan, once you're at 3 bottles the add button becomes Upgrade to add more →.

Track a bottle's lifecycle

Every bottle carries a status that controls whether it counts toward your estimated value:

Status Meaning Counts in estimated value?
Sealed The quiet default — an unopened bottle you own Yes
Opened You've opened it but still own it Yes
Sold You've sold it — the sale is realized No — it drops out of the estimate and into realized P&L

To change status, use the Status ▾ control on a bottle (on the portfolio row, or in the Status panel on the bottle's page):

  1. Click Status ▾ to open the menu.
  2. Choose Opened, Seal (to revert to sealed), or Sold….
  3. Marking Sold… reveals a required sale price field — it starts blank (placeholder Sale price) and is auto-focused, so you type the actual hammer price you got, in £. Beside it, an optional sale date defaults to today and can't be in the future. Click Confirm sale.

The sale price is intentionally left blank rather than pre-filled with what you paid: a pre-filled field lets a confirm-without-editing record a sale at cost, which would show a false £0 realized gain. Entering the hammer price is a conscious step.

Marked a bottle sold by mistake? Open Status ▾ and choose Un-sell — that reverts it to sealed and clears the recorded sale. The estimate and realized P&L recompute on the next load.

Open one bottle

Click any bottle to open its page (/app/bottles/<id>). It shows:

  • Est. value and its likely range (e.g. range £1,760–£2,240, ±12%), the change vs. what you paid, and your Paid figure. If there's no auction hammer for that exact bottle yet, the value falls back to the distillery's market average, marked dist. market.
  • Status panel with the Status ▾ control described above; a sold bottle shows the sale date, price, and realized gain/loss inline.
  • Price history — a sparkline of the bottle's hammer history. On the Free plan this is the last 12 months (Upgrade for full history); Collector shows the full history.
  • Recent matched listings — the most recent auction lots matched to this bottle, each with its source, date, and hammer price, linking out to the original listing.

From here you can also Edit bottle or share it.

Edit a bottle

Click Edit bottle (on the bottle's page) to open the edit form (/app/bottles/<id>/edit). Editable fields:

Field Notes
Distillery (required)
Expression e.g. "18 Sherry Oak"
Vintage (distilled) / Bottled (release) Whole years; bottled can't precede vintage
Age (yrs) 0–120
ABV (%) 0–100
Size (ml) Defaults to 700
Bottler (if IB), Cask #, Cask type, Edition Identity details for independent bottlings
Price paid (£) / Date bought Your cost basis — drives the P&L
Condition, Notes Your own record

The numeric fields are validated the same way as when you add a bottle (see Getting started). Changing identity-defining details (distillery, age, vintage, cask) re-matches the bottle to auction data, so keep them accurate.

Remove a bottle

On the edit form, use Remove this bottle. This deletes only your bottle row — the underlying auction price history is global (shared across all collectors, keyed to the canonical bottle), so removing your bottle never touches the market data. Your portfolio total and P&L recompute on reload.

Removing is permanent for your record. If you sold the bottle and want to keep the realized gain in your P&L, mark it Sold instead of removing it.

Send feedback

Every page inside the app has a Feedback button pinned to the bottom-right corner. Click it and a Share feedback panel opens where you can:

  • pick a type — 🐞 Bug, 💡 Idea, or 💬 General (defaults to General);
  • optionally leave a 1–5 star rating;
  • write your note in the "Tell us what's on your mind…" box.

Click send and you'll see "Thanks — we read every note." Your name, email, plan, and the page you were on are attached automatically from your session, so you don't have to describe where you were — just what happened. It's the fastest way to report a wrong price, a bottle that won't match, or a feature you want.

Notes & limits

  • Sold bottles stay in your history and in realized P&L — they just stop counting toward the estimated value of what you currently own.
  • Free plan counts every bottle you own toward the 3-bottle limit, sold ones included (they still occupy a row). Collector removes the limit and unlocks full per-bottle history — see Account & billing.
