About Aberlour
Founded in 1879 by James Fleming on the banks of the Lour Burn, which flows through granite before entering the distillery — giving a soft, mineral-rich water profile. Two wash stills and two spirit stills produce a medium-bodied new make. The distillery is particularly well known for its dual maturation regime: some spirit goes into American oak ex-bourbon barrels, some into first-fill European oak oloroso sherry casks, with the two streams married at bottling. The cult favourite A'bunadh (Gaelic for 'of the origin') is released in non-consecutive batches at natural cask strength without chill-filtration, drawn exclusively from first-fill oloroso sherry butts, and regularly attracts strong secondary market premiums. Aberlour 18 Year Old and the white oak reserve are also highly regarded.
